:: A DAY TO MOURN & TO CELEBRATE ::

Please join us Tuesday, August 12th, at 7:00pm, in Eagle, ID, for Isaiah's Celebration Memorial Service, at the Eagle Nazarene Church (located at #1001 W. State St., Eagle 83616).

Again, our family could not and should not have endured such an unrelenting fight against leukemia if it wasn't for people's prayers, encouraging words, email messages, cards, contributions, benevolence, resources, etc.  We have been touched in an amazing way even though Isaiah's time on this earth was short-lived, yet courageously experienced!

Love,

-The Rodriguez-Gough Family

::ISAIAH RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ :: 12/20/96 - 07/02/2008 ::
Early this morning, at approximately 1:27am, Isaiah Rafael Rodriguez went to be with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, in a peaceful, sweet passing with friends & family at his bedside...

Isaiah's story continues in the lives of others he so profoundly touched. Today,...Isaiah truly...

OVERCAME!

:: COIN TOSS ::

It's been what we call a "coin toss" or a never ending "roller coaster ride" battling w/ Isaiah's treatment, critical care, well being & needs after his diagnosis date in August of 2006.  So many of you have told us you appreciate the email updates, etc.

Often times, we don't have anything left in us to send out these updates & point you to Isaiah's web site instead.  At other times we're text messaging you/people like crazy giving up-to-the-minute info. on Isaiah's fight to overcome leukemia; once & for all.

As of late, the battle grows ever fiercer as either the disease process is finally kicking in & his body begins to show signs of bloating (in the abdomen) or petechiae/bruising or hemorrhaging on the upper parts of his body.  As shown by small red blotches on his skin...like big red freckles.  It's hard to see Isaiah like this.

In recent weeks, Isaiah white blood cell count went thru the roof!  Up to 149,000 whereas normal range is 4.5K - 14.5K.  We've never had it rough w/ his white blood cell count.  More importantly, the increased occurrence of petechiae (as we now understand it) could be the result of Isaiah's ongoing Platelet count + a very high white blood cell count.  And to see his white blood cell count spike sooo high, along w/ the clinical or physical condition that he's in...is discouraging, to say the least, after all he's fought thru over these last 2-years..
.

So, we have another important clinic appt. for Isaiah tomorrow (6/26) to determine which direction to go in:

1) Consider giving Isaiah a low-dose oral chemotherapy in order to lower the White Blood Cell count

2) Let his body do the work, let the pain meds, anti-biotics & other nutritional supplements that we give him continue giving his good cells a fighting chance

Which, at either turn, the risks & the side effects often outweigh the benefits.  Yet, Isaiah remains true to himself, he continues holding his own & just plain wants to be a boy who gets to be w/ friends, build Legos, watch good movies, eat, sleep, etc.  At the same time, we've noticed that Isaiah's lost his laughter (as of late) & this really concerns us.  As parents, it's stretched us sooo incredibly thin that we're really crying out for wisdom & being able to discern how to best give him the care he really needs right now.

So, this update is to say...

Isaiah, again, may be nearing the end of his life w/ us on earth if the disease process progresses & his physical symptoms worsen  OR  He could go on, like he has, amazing us & perplexing the medical community by baffling their outcome studies, theories & continued prognosis.

Only God & time will tell
